Today’s my last day of vacation, and since it’s nice out I took Lucky for a drive in the country.
The railroad bridge behind me was built in 1914!
The road behind me (to the right) has an abandoned bridge, but it’s blocked off.
I was going to get more shots from this intersection, but one of the residents came up behind me so I decided to just move on.
Quiet back road railroad crossing.
I was standing on the end of a dirt road when I took this photo.

That’s a damn fine example of a (1990-1?) 2nd Gen Prelude.

Thanks! It is indeed a ‘91.

In the U.S. that’s a 3rd gen Prelude. Used to have a 90 Si and I miss it terribly.

Yep. I’m in Colonial Heights, so it’s only a 10-15 minute drive. The last 3 pics were in Dinwiddie.

I grew up in Norfolk, but I left back in 1986.

Nice car. These things always looked like they were RWD. Idk why Honda didn’t just make it rwd.

My dad lent me a book called The Honda Myth. I started on it, but never got to the part where modern Honda began to take shape. From what my dad says, even then it’s unclear. The book has the origins of the Civic and Accord, but the Prelude seemingly just showed up one day in the late 70s. There was a coupe version of the 1300 (predecessor to the Accord), but there was a 5-year gap between it and the Prelude.

I have family that lived there around then, but left for the OBX a few years later. Aside from the traffic I like Hampton Roads.

I miss being around the water. We lived fairly close to downtown, and seeing all the Navy ships in the shipyard, the tugs, all that was really neat.

I went to Hampton last week to check out Buckroe Beach. I took a brief side trip to downtown Newport News while waiting for a brewery to open. The road I took (351/Pembroke) went directly from Buckroe to NN Shipbuilding Company. I was in awe of how expansive the shipyard was.

It really is remarkable. And it’s nowhere near as vast as it was in WWII, or even back in the 80s, when Reagan was trying to build his 600 ship navy. I had a friend with a boat, and we used to cruise down the south branch of the Elizabeth River from downtown Norfolk, past Portsmouth, and see all the repair facilities, etc. that line the river. Submarines, mothballed ships, you name it. And every once in a while, you’d see something like this.
This is the Harry S Truman sailing up (well, down really) the Elizabeth River from the south branch (the right fork), past downtown Norfolk and USS Wisconsin . We don’t get to see that in Austin.

Awesome photo. I also checked out Fort Monroe for a bit. It was decommissioned in 2011, but there’s a lot of signage leftover from when it was active.
It’d make a good photoshoot spot. Maybe later this year I’ll take this car there.

You can still take a tour of the historic fort, can't you?

Not sure, honestly. Every time I’ve gone on it I’ve just been exploring. The only time I went with a group it was to check out the spot where the old ferry to Norfolk was.
